Art Nouveau building of the early nineteenth century.
Encouraged by expansion of wollen mills (1800), Schio was booming and prosperity reigned.
People felt the "need" of bulding a theater worthy of hosting the performances of Lyric Opera that were very appreciated at the time and were a real status for the society. The Civic Theatre is an Art Nouveau building that could accommodate 1,500 spectators. Thanks to its solid reinforced concrete skeleton was able to withstand several fires that have partially damaged it.
Thanks to the "Foundation Civic Theatre", with the restoration of the facade, from 1994 started a campaign for the recovery of this beautiful building culminated in 2014 with the reopening to the public and the inauguration of a rich theater season.
Today as yesterday inhabitants of Schio demonstrate to love good theater and mainly to love "their" theater THEIR, recovering and valuing it as rightly deserved.
